Many Texas courts want a certified driving record alongside your defensive driving certificate before they'll dismiss a citation — check your citation paperwork or call the court clerk to confirm.
An insurer or employer needs proof
Insurance companies and employers who run drivers (CDL holders, delivery, rideshare) often request a current record before issuing a policy or a job offer.
You want to check it yourself
Before you dispute a ticket or plan a course, it's worth seeing exactly what's on file — points, violations, and status — straight from the state.
Which record type do you need?
Texas DPS sells six versions. If a court or insurer didn't specify, Type 3A covers almost every use case.

Fastest option: order directly from Texas DPS and get a PDF in minutes.

Have your details ready
Your Texas driver licence number, date of birth, and the last four digits of your Social Security number (the ones on file with DPS).

Log in to the DPS portal
Go to the Texas DPS driver record ordering site and verify your identity with those details.

Pick your record type
If it's for a court, ask what type they require — most ask for Type 3A. Enter your mailing address when prompted.

Pay and download
Pay by credit or debit card. Your record opens as a PDF you can print or save right away — there's no mail-delivery option through the online system.
